As well as our regular Sunday worship, we hold many special services which including baptisms, weddings and funerals, as well as special events for the wider Anglican community such as ordination for ministry, and celebrations for the City and State.
Weddings
Marriage is one of the sacraments of the Church, reflecting the union of Jesus Christ and his Church. With its combination of beauty, history, and spiritual significance, St Peter's Cathedral is a wonderful choice for a wedding venue in Adelaide.
Confirmation
Confirmation is a sacrament which binds those who have been baptised more perfectly to the church and enriches them with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Those who have been baptised as infants are often confirmed as teenagers, while those who are baptised as adults are often confirmed at the same time, or soon afterwards.
Baptism
Christ commanded the disciples to preach the Gospel to all nations and to baptise those who accept the message of the Gospel. Most people receive the sacrament of baptism as infants, but many are baptised as adults. Baptism is the very mark of a Christian, because it brings us into a new life in Christ.
Ministry of Healing
An ancient tradition of anointing with oil for healing is offered by arrangement with the clergy. Anointing may be arranged in conjunction with Holy Communion offered in the Cathedral, at home or in hospital.
Taizé Worship
A time to calm and quiet your body and mind and let your soul speak. Consisting of simple harmonic music, silence, candlelight, a brief homily and ministry of healing. Light a candle to symbolise prayer for yourself or others, or for healing and reconciliation for the world. First Saturday of each month (except January) at 7.30 pm.
Civic/State Services
A cathedral is the natural gathering place for the community in time of great joy or great trouble.
A range of specially crafted services are held such as the Centenary of ANZAC Day, the Coronation of King Charles III, the opening of Parliament, and prayers for peace in troubled times.
Many schools hold their end of year Carol Services at St Peter’s, as do some community choirs.
Diocesan Services
As the ‘mother church’ of the Diocese of Adelaide St Peter’s Cathedral frequently hosts special services, either for the Diocese as a whole (such as Synod and Ordination) or different institutions within it.
Upcoming special services include the annual Ordination of Deacons and Priests on Saturday 25 October, and the farewell to the retiring Archbishop of Adelaide, the Most Reverend Geoffrey Smith. on Saturday 1 November.
